FAQ
Questions and answers
What is STATUE #001?
A collective digital artwork: a 120-metre 3D statue made of 50,000 numbered pieces. Anyone can claim a piece and leave a permanent mark on it, and every owner is visible on the monument.
What do I get when I buy a piece?
A permanent, public place in the monument under your name, your own page, a certificate of ownership e-mailed to you, and, if you choose, a line of text, a link and an image shown on your piece. Your image is projected onto your plate in the 3D statue.
Why is the statue called Indrajala?
Indrajala is Sanskrit for the net of Indra, an old image of a world made of jewels in which every jewel reflects all the others. It is the story we tell about the monument: 50,000 strangers, each one a jewel, together one figure. The full legend is told in chapters that open as the statue fills up.
Is a piece an investment?
No. A piece is a digital object and a creative space inside a collective artwork. There is no promise of profit, return or resale value, and ownership is recorded in our database rather than on a blockchain.
How much does a piece cost?
The price depends only on the piece number: $1 for #1 to #1,000, $2 for #1,001 to #2,000, and so on up to $50 for #49,001 to #50,000. The earlier the number, the lower the price. The full table is on the pricing page.
Can I choose which piece I get?
Yes. Search by number, turn a birthday or anniversary into matching numbers on the Find your number page, or pick an area of the statue (the crown, the raised hand, the golden orb) on the Pick a spot page.
Can I add or change my text, link or image later?
No. Pieces are permanent. The optional text, link and image must be provided when you buy and cannot be added or changed afterwards, so check them before you pay.
What image works best?
A square image of at least 1600 by 1600 pixels. It is cropped to the face of your piece and each piece is small on the statue, so a sharp, centred image with bold shapes looks best. JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB.
How do I download my certificate?
It is attached to the e-mail you receive when you buy the piece. You can also download it again from your piece page: enter the e-mail address you used for the purchase, we send a 6-digit code to it, and the code unlocks the download. This way only the owner can get the full-size file.
Can I buy a piece as a gift?
Yes. Choose the gift option at checkout, enter the recipient's name and e-mail and an optional message. The piece is placed under the recipient's name and they receive an e-mail with a link to it.
How do payments work?
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. The piece is reserved for you for a few minutes while you pay.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final. Refunds are not available on request and are only issued manually by us in specific cases, for example a technical error or a double sale. See the Refunds and Cancellations page for details.
What is the Heart?
Piece #50,001 is hidden inside the statue. It is not sold at a fixed price: when all 50,000 other pieces are claimed it goes to a seven-day auction and the highest bid wins. Everyone who owns a piece is told by e-mail when the auction opens.
Who can see my name and e-mail?
Your name (or the name you enter) is public on your piece. Your e-mail address is never shown. See the Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
